A Sirsa based NGO working through vocational training, rehabilitation, inclusive education, community services, and support for people with disabilities.
Humble beginning
Inspired by socially committed friends like Sh. Gulshan Grover and Ex-President Rotary International (Mid Town), Sirsa, and Mrs. Geeta Kathuria, Disha was established in April 1997 and registered on 15 May 1998.
Its pamphlet describes Disha as a vocational training and rehabilitation centre and a state nodal agency centre under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
Aims and objectives
Training people with different types of disabilities and helping them become self-dependent.
Supporting the development of disabled persons through community, cultural and public activities.
Care for mentally retarded persons, women belonging to weaker sections, and awareness about rights and duties.
Vocational training, tribes and backward class programmes, and literacy classes in remote areas.
Services
The pamphlets mention work with autism, cerebral palsy, multiple disabilities, mental retardation, hearing impairment, visual impairment, and physical disability.
